3 Reasons to Pursue Your Life's Calling

“No amount of security is worth the suffering of a mediocre life chained to a routine that has killed your dreams.” – Maya Mendoza

Building a life around our passions and talents provides us with growth and fresh challenges to leap through. It is too easy to subscribe to a life that has us living paycheck to paycheck because it’s comfortable. Comfort and familiarity is something that we all inherently need, but we should also strive to feel more connected, ignited, and have a sense of joy from what we do. We need to reach a point where we truly begin to value ourselves. We have to allocate our time and energy to seek out new experiences. The only thing that stops or holds us back is fear. All rewards require us to entertain a level of risk; we need to be open and vulnerable to the chances and possibilities. We can take forward strides from a place of consciousness and self awareness. Here are 3 reasons to search your heart and follow what your passions.

1. You have a specific talent to share

We all have unique talents that we may not even be aware of. Exploring all that you are, following your calls of curiosity points you in a positive direction. We all have many layers and sometimes we need to dig deep to our core. What did you love to do as a child before anyone told you that what you were doing had little value? As children we are the purest example of our creative passions. If you love to do something, then it has value no matter how insignificant it may seem to you or others. Follow your inner calls to your talents and innate gifts.

“Something that worked for me was imagining that where I wanted to be – an author, primarily of fiction, making good books, making good comics and supporting myself through my words – was a mountain. A distant mountain- my goal; and I knew that as long as I kept walking towards the mountain I would be all right. And when I truly was not sure what to do, I could stop, and think about whether it was taking me towards or away from the mountain. I tended to do anything as long as it felt like an adventure, and to stop when it felt like work, which meant that life did not feel like work” – Neil Gaiman

2. Your work will not feel like work

When we fall in love with what we design our lives around, we naturally flourish. There is freedom and liberty in doing what excites you, it is a fuel that carries your very own distinct signature. Our work should be a playground for our creativity to shine and make its mark. There are no limits to what we are capable of, yet we get stuck in the pattern of taking steady, but bland job and watching the clock tick by until it’s time to go. Life is not meant to be lived by the pendulum and moving hands on a clock. Our financial circumstances very often keep us boxed in, but we can always work toward our dreams. That is all our passion and talents speak to us of... making a start and taking a chance. The road that you are on opens up and widens as you take on your highest ambitions with an unwavering courage.

3. Enhance your well-being

When we feel stuck and generally bored, our happiness diminishes. What we do for our working life takes up so much of our time, when we are simply living for comfort, it is detrimental to our mental health. We all aspire to be happy; it is an existential hope and something that is engineered through our innermost processes. Taking steps toward your passions lights you up from the inside out and energetically heightens your emotions and clarifies your thoughts. When we emerge out of limiting beliefs and behaviours we can act from a place of emotional truth. Our highest good should be at the forefront of all we do.

“You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment” - Henry David Thoreau

It takes a lot of introspective discovery to find out what makes us tick, to find what we really love to do and to bring ourselves back to what lies at the very heart of us. We put off our hopes and dreams because it’s not the right time, but there never is a right time to seek what you desire. Start now with what you have.
