5 Free Self Care Ideas

Self care is the act of doing something to care for your own well being. This seems selfish, but in the proper doses it can help you do your work more efficiently and allow you to care for others well, too. Many self care ideas, such as going to the spa, can be quite expensive. Fortunately, you don't have to sacrifice your financial goals to practice a little self care. Here are five self care ideas that are free.

Take a Bath

Allow yourself to unwind in a warm bath. You can use bubble bath or fancy soap if you want to, but just the act of soaking in the warm water can allow your body to relax and release stress.

Go for a Walk

This walk ins't so much for exercise as it is for stress relief, so take your time. Stop and notice things along the way that intrigue you, and go without any specific destination in mind. This will relax your body and your mind, and it will give you some nice fresh air to rejuvenate your senses.

Read a Book

Choose a book that you thoroughly enjoy and one that doesn't take too much brain power to read. Find a comfortable spot where you feel at ease, and allow yourself to get thoroughly lost in your book. This works best when you have plenty of time and don't have to worry about an upcoming deadline.

Nap in Nature

Grab a blanket and head for your favorite secluded nature spot. This could be on the beach, in a forest, or wherever you feel comfortable going. Taking a nap in the fresh, open air, surrounded by nature, can be invigorating. Just make sure to put on sunscreen if you're going to be out in the sun.

Change the Ambiance

Even if you can't get away from your home or office, changing the ambiance where you are can reduce the strain on your eyes and ears that normal, everyday life causes. Turn on some soft music, dim the lights, and light some candles or string lights if you have them.

The next time you're feeling stressed or stretched too thin, try one of these five self care tips. You can take care of yourself without having a huge budget, which means you can still focus on your financial aspirations of paying off debt, building up your savings account or whatever those aspirations may be.
