How To Conquer Fear And Live The Life You Want

We all have fears, every single one of us.  So what's the difference within the people who achieve great success? They face fear head on. The good news is that they are no different than anybody else. The ability to finally achieve our goals and dreams can be found in each and every one of us.

Here are a few pointers to help you along your path to success:

You Have To Want To Change

Acknowledging our fear is crucial, but willing ourselves to be courageous and do something about it is even more important.  Once you have set a goal for yourself, however, overcoming your fear will be the next step.  For Warren Buffet, it was deciding that if he was going to be the best businessman he could be, he needed to overcome his fear of public speaking.

Fear can be easy to see, but the rewards that fear is hiding are impossible to know if you do not look beyond your immediate feelings.  You need to know what it is you want, whether that is to feel safe on a plane, build your own business venture, or follow a creative dream.  If you simply allow fear to exist and allow it to confine you, than you will never live the life that you want to live.  Recognize that conquering your fear is just another step on the way to achieving your goals and dreams, and then the realm of possibility will become infinite for you.

Preparation Drives Out Fear

Am I going to confront my fear, or am I going to avoid it?  This is fight or flight, our natural response to fear.  A person’s worst nightmare is to be blindsided by what they fear the most; whether it is public speaking, being unemployed, or flying in an airplane.  There is nothing that brings more anxiety than feeling we have no control over our own lives.

Unfortunately there is no way of knowing exactly what the world will throw at us, but we can control how we will react to it.  Richard Branson, for example, has written about how his airline helped customers who were afraid of flying overcome their fear.  They did not only focus on the immediate fear while in the air, but also offered "Flying Without Fear" courses, which experienced a 98% success rate.  Taking steps to prepare for fearful, or stressful situations, is, perhaps, the most important aspect of overcoming fear.  Blindly jumping into fire can leave you burned, but, with time and learning, you will have the equipment and knowledge to come out unsinged.

Understanding Your Fear

Fear is natural, and vital to our survival as instinctual beings.  When we avoid our fears, we feel safe, but unless we are willing to step outside of our comfort zone, we will only continue to allow fear to decide how our lives will turn out.  Do not let fear prevent you from feeling fulfilled.  If you really want something and are willing to work hard to get it, then you will see fear as simply another obstacle for you to overcome on your path to living the life you dream of living.
