Soul of an Entrepreneur: 3 Thoughts to Keep You Going

Today, possibly more than ever as small business ownership continues to grow at incredible rates, entrepreneurs have found themselves at the forefront of what tomorrow will look like.

Much attention is given to those that “make it big” and see their startup ideas blossom into realities that even they may not have imagined, and rightfully so. It’s every entrepreneur's dream to watch an idea they’ve likely tinkered with and worked on for years culminate into a tangible product.

Often when asked how they held on during times that were incredibly bleak and they were told “No” at each turn, these successful individuals will cite an inner drive or spirit that made them keep going.

There are many components that make up the soul of the entrepreneur, and the motivational aspect is an important part.

Here are three inspirational quotes and campaigns that can provide you with a dash of encouragement during those times when you wonder what you’re doing and if your ideas are ever going to work:

Everything you need is already inside. - NIKE

When it comes to motivating individuals, Nike is at the forefront of inspirational messaging. This isn’t a mistake. Athletes and entrepreneurs have many traits in common: drive, ambition, dedication, spirit of sacrifice, hard work ethic...the list goes on and on.

One of my favorite go-to campaigns that never fails to give me an instant boost of energy and inspiration is their iconic “Everything You Need Is Already Inside” series. The moment that the video begins playing in this clip, something inside of me always reminds me to pick myself up, dust myself off and get back to soldering on.

You know you're doing what you love when Sunday nights feel the same as Friday nights...

This quote by Donny Deutsch is a great reminder that it’s okay to not be participating in all of the things that you used to as you hunker down to chip away at your dreams. Often the isolation of being an entrepreneur can be intimidating-you feel as though everyone else is out living and having a great time, and you’re not part of the picture because you simply need the time to invest in your idea.

If you believe in what you’re thinking and feel in your heart that it’s got potential, go all-in and embrace that. The time will pass either way-why not give it your best shot?

Think different. - Apple

Apple’s classic campaign still stands as one of the most powerful examples of motivation, inspiration and the celebration of the entrepreneurial soul. The copy embraces the fall-down-seven-times-stand-up-eight spirit found within most of those who dare to dream different:

"Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes.

The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.

About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward.

Maybe they have to be crazy.

How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?

We make tools for these kinds of people.

While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do."
