Soul of An Entrepreneur: Heart & Hustle

You can’t talk about the soul of an entrepreneur without talking about the heart and hustle found within successful individuals.

It’s one thing to have great ideas. It’s another to make those dreams a reality.

Becoming a prosperous entrepreneur means that you will have to work hard, make sacrifices, be comfortable with the idea of failure and put your heart and soul into what you believe in. Because if you don’t, you can’t expect anyone else to follow you and help you achieve your goals.

Being an entrepreneur takes heart. Being an entrepreneur takes hustle.

Here are some of my favorite quotes to inspire the hustle, tenacity and dedication that are needed to fuel the soul of entrepreneur:

I never dreamed about success. I worked for it.

Estee Lauder sums up the hustle found in entrepreneurs perfectly in this quote. Dreaming about your success doesn’t get you any closer to it. You have to work for it. Day in and day out.

The dream free, but the hustle, sold separately.

Damian Lillard wrote this oft-rephrased lyric for Soldier In The Game and its’ appeal to entrepreneurs is universal, serving as an anthem for those that chase down their dreams.

Hustle beats talent when talent doesn’t hustle.

Ross Simmonds often reminded people that just because you’re born with talent, that doesn’t mean that you’re going to be successful.

In order to achieve your goals, you have to be willing to work hard and invest your heart, energy and soul time and again. If you’re not vested in your ideas enough to dedicate yourself to the cause, rest assured that someone hungrier and more driven than you will take your place.

Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.

Ever a speaker of truth, Abraham Lincoln long recognized that while patience is a virtue, working hard and hustling are critical to attaining the best things in life.

If you feel down on your luck, check the level of your effort.

Reality checks are necessary if you’re an entrepreneur, as Robert Brault nimbly points out. Much more than lip service is required to attain your goals. You must be able to apply yourself day in and day out for long periods of time in order to attain success. If you’re not prepared to dedicate what may seem like impossible levels of effort and attention to your ideas, chances are, your dreams aren’t going to see the light of day.

My owner is life and that’s what I fight for.

Pitbull is one of my favorite entrepreneurs because he possesses so much passion for what he does, and he’s not afraid to talk about it.

When you’re an entrepreneur, you are fighting each day to make your life dreams come true. If you don’t have the heart for that kind of long-term discipline, chances are, you won’t make it.

The manifestation of your dreams takes time. Every entrepreneur knows this. Behind every headline about a startup being purchased for incredible sums of money lies the same plot: An entrepreneur with a dream toiled long hours, faced roadblock after roadblock, tried and tried again, outworked and out-performed others to meet success.

Because success doesn’t come to you. You hustle to it.
